Netherlands vs Italy: predictions & team news

The Netherlands will be looking to move onto six points in Group 1 of League A in the UEFA Nations League when they welcome Italy to Amsterdam on Monday night.

The Dutch are looking to go one better than their second-place finish in the inaugural edition of the Nations League and, having started in the right vein, they know that a win against the Italy would help them take complete control of the group.

The Oranje kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lewandowski-less Poland, while Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Netherlands reached the final of the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, losing 1-0 to Portugal, with Goncalo Guedes’s second-half strike providing to be the difference between the two sides.

Reason for Netherlands vs. Italy predictions:

  • Italy have scored for 12 successive matches.
  • Netherlands notched in nine of their last 10 competitive games at home.
  • Italy are unbeaten in 15 games ahead of their trip to Amsterdam.

Italy have a superior head-to-head record over the Netherlands, recording 10 victories from their 21 previous meetings in all competitions, suffering just three defeats in the process.

Italy extended their run of scoring in successive matches to 12, but having conceded in five of their last eight, it’s clear that defensive problems continue to linger.

Netherlands are firm favourites to beat Italy in Monday night’s Nations League contest after opening their campaign with a win over Poland.

Both sides will feel that they are capable of causing problems in the final third, and it promises to be a very interesting battle in Amsterdam. Italy’s record against the Netherlands is excellent, but we are struggling to separate the two teams on this occasion, ultimately backing a low-scoring draw.

Prediction: Netherlands 1-1 Italy
