Bayern Munich vs. Sevilla – prediction, team news & odds

The winners of last season’s major European club competitions will meet in Budapest tonight as Bayern Munich take on Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.

Bayern’s phenomenal form continued after the coronavirus restart as they charged to Champions League success, hammering Barcelona 8-2 in the semi-final before beating PSG 1-0 in the final.

Bayern Munich come into this game on the back of an 8-0 thrashing of Schalke 04 in their opening league game.

Sevilla, meanwhile, continued their remarkable record in the Europa League, beating Inter Milan 3-2 in a thrilling final.

In two previous encounters between the two sides, Bayern Munich have won one game and drawn the other.

Their most recent match was in 2018 in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg. The game ended in a 0-0 draw. Bayern Munich progressed having beaten Sevilla 2-1 away.

German champions Bayern have quite simply been in sensational form since the turn of the year, going 31 matches without defeat in all competitions and winning 30 of those. Bayern Munich having won 22 consecutive matches. That run includes thumping victories over Chelsea and Barcelona at the end of last season en route to beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

Bayern will now compete in the UEFA Super Cup for a fourth time and will be hoping to make it back-to-back triumphs, having defeated Chelsea on pens in the 2013 edition.

Sevilla have made the Europa League their own and got the new LaLiga season off to the ideal start with a 3-2 win over Levante last weekend.

But, the Spanish side have lost their only previous competitive meeting with Bayern, going down 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the 2017-18 Champions League.

Bayern Munich will be the favourites to win this game. The win over Schalke 04 is a reminder of how good they can be on any given day.
