Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace: prediction, preview, team news and more

Newcastle United will be aiming to record back-to-back victories in the Premier League for only the second time this season when they welcome Crystal Palace to St James’ Park on Tuesday evening.

With both teams having posted superb wins in their previous games, Newcastle United host Crystal Palace in a Premier League on Tuesday evening.

The Magpies managed to end their barren winless run with a 2-0 victory over Everton last time out, while Palace claimed a vital 1-0 win of their own over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They are still 16th in the Premier League, with 22 points from 21 games. However, that win against Everton was important for Steve Bruce’s men to arrest the recent slide that they had experienced.

They have now put enough distance between themselves and 18th-placed Fulham to not have to worry about the relegation battle for now.

Crystal Palace also desperately needed the win they got in their last match. They beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at Selhurst Park thanks to a superb second-half goal from Eberechi Eze.

Like Newcastle, Palace were sliding down the Premier League table before that result, but are now just four points off the top half of the table.

Reason for Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace predictions:

  • Palace have lost three of their last four away games.
  • Palace are winless in four away league games, drawing and losing two apiece.
  • Newcastle have won two of the last three meetings between these two including this season’s visit to Palace.
  • Newcastle’s victory at the weekend ended their 11-match winless run in all competitions.
  • They have won just three of their past 14 matches at St James’ Park, drawing four times and losing seven.
  • The Eagles have been beaten in five of their last eight away.

Newcastle could complete a league double over Palace for the first time since 2013-14.

Newcastle have won 28 of the 48 fixtures that they have played against Crystal Palace in the past, losing only 11 times. Nine of those games ended in draws.

The past four meetings at St James’ Park have all ended 1-0, with Newcastle winning three times and Palace once.

In the reverse fixture at Selhurst Park earlier this season, Newcastle won 2-0 thanks to late goals from Wilson and Joelinton.

We think Newcastle are well priced to shade this one. With Palace losing five from eight on the road we think that the hosts are well priced for a victory, so a home win is our first prediction.

With Palace’s injury worries in defence and Callum Wilson’s return to form, Newcastle go into this game as slight favorites.

With Newcastle conceding in 90% of their home games and Palace shipping a goal in 90% of their trips, goals look likely here. Seven of Newcastle’s 10 home league games so far have seen over 2.5 goals and we’re backing this one to go the same way.

Our Prediction: Newcastle United @ 2.92
