Lyon vs. Dijon – prediction, preview and team news

The Ligue 1 is back in action with its 2020-21 edition as an in-form Lyon outfit hosts Dijon in a league fixture at the Groupama Stadium tomorrow. Dijon has enjoyed a fairly relaxed four months and will be able to field a well-rested starting 11 in this game.

Champions League semi-finalists Lyon get their Ligue 1 campaign underway on Friday evening with a home encounter against Dijon.

Having enjoyed their best-ever campaign in European football’s premier competition, Lyon will be on a high as they begin their bid to return to Ligue 1’s top three.

The visitors to the Groupama Stadium head into the contest having begun their season with an opening-day setback versus Angers.

The home side is the overwhelming favourite to win this fixture and will not want to drop points in its first Ligue 1 game of the season. The home side put in an excellent performance against Manchester City in the Champions League and has been a resurgent force in the past month.

Dijon has struggled since its return to the Ligue 1 in 2016. Dijon will have to be at its absolute best to stand a chance against Lyon.

The away side has since leaked goals to the better teams in France and will have to regain its solidity at the back to keep the likes of Memphis Depay and Houssem Aouar quiet.

Dijon won just one of their seven games in all competitions last season and has lost three games on the trot over the past few weeks and will have to make amends in this fixture.

The last league contest between the two was Ligue 1 match day 10 on 19/10/2019 when it ended Lyon 0-0 Dijon.

In that match, Lyon had 64% possession and 24 shots at goal with 10 of them on target and Dijon got 6 shots on goal with 1 of them on target.

Having already gotten four matches under the belt since last month, we expect Lyon to be fully up to speed on Friday evening. It would come as a surprise if Garcia’s men did not run out comfortable winners.

Prediction: Lyon 2-0 Dijon
