Everton vs. Manchester United – prediction & team news

Everton will look to get their season back on track at the expense of a wounded Manchester United when the side clash at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Toffees have seen their bright start to the campaign tail off in recent weeks, while Man United are languishing in 15th place following their joint-worst start to a campaign since 1986-87.

The Toffees are winless in three Premier League games, losing their last two, but will welcome a return to Goodison Park, where they are unbeaten this season.

United’s league campaign has yet to get going after six games and although they have won both away league matches this season.

There were two elements of Manchester United’s 2020-21 season so far which offered hope to counteract the gloomy reality of their league position and form at Old Trafford – their Champions League results and their remarkable record on the road.

Reason for Everton vs Manchester United predictions:

  • Everton lost just one of their last 15 Premier League games at Goodison Park.
  • Everton have gone seven Premier League home games without a clean sheet.
  • Man Utd lost each of their last two fixtures against Arsenal and Istanbul Başakşehir respectively.
  • Manchester United have conceded four penalties in their six Premier League games this season. They conceded just three all last season.
  • Everton have yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season.
  • Everton are unbeaten in three previous meetings with Man Utd.

Both of those were shattered on Wednesday night as they found themselves on the wrong end of Istanbul Basaksehir’s first ever Champions League win.

United have failed to even score in their last two top-flight outings, and with a defensive record which is also among the worst in the division that is a recipe for more defeats in the weeks to come.

After beginning the campaign with eight successive wins across all competitions, Everton are now winless in their last three, taking a controversial point from the Merseyside derby against Liverpool before back-to-back defeats away to Southampton and Newcastle United respectively.

Both matches last season were 1-1 draws, with Everton scoring first on both occasions.

United have won 36 Premier League games against Everton, a record for one club against a particular opponent.

Their 16 Premier League victories at Goodison Park is the joint-most away wins by any club at a single stadium. United have also won 16 times at Villa Park.

The Red Devils have been short of form and confidence over the last week, but they really need to turn up for Solskjaer on Saturday. The big question is which Everton side will turn up: the one which won their opening four games, or the team which lost its last two. All signs point to a tense draw – but whether that will be enough for Solskjaer is another debate entirely.
