England vs. Denmark – prediction & team news

England will get the chance to build on their 2-1 victory against the world’s number one nation, Belgium, and win over the doubters when they face Denmark on Wednesday in Nations League Group A2.

Denmark picked up a big win of their own at the weekend, defeating Iceland 0-3 in Reykjavik. If they could spring an upset over England on Wednesday night, they could well turn the fight for a spot in next summer’s UEFA Nations League semi-finals into a three-way battle.

The Three Lions moved to the top of the Group A2 standings with their win over Belgium on Sunday, while the Danes thrashed Iceland 3-0 in their most recent match to keep their campaign alive.

England are now one point better off than Belgium and three in front of Denmark at the midway stage, with a so-far pointless Iceland propping up the table.

Reason for England vs Denmark predictions:

  • England have won both of their games in this international break.
  • The hosts have won their last nine home matches.
  • England have scored 26 goals in six home games since the start of 2019.

England have won 20 of their last 21 competitive matches on home soil, though they found life very tough against Denmark when the sides met in Copenhagen a month ago.

The last meeting between England and Denmark was a drab 0-0 draw last September with both sides mustering just two shots on target each.

England have a good record against Denmark, recording 12 wins over the Danes. Denmark have beaten the Three Lions three times, with their most recent two wins coming in the mid-2000’s over England’s so-called ‘Golden Generation’.

England must be favoured here. They’ve lost just two games since the start of 2019, and picked up an impressive win over Belgium, FIFA’s top-ranked side. Denmark are on a two-game winning streak, but were defeated by the Belgians in September.

Denmark enjoyed a terrific run of form during 2019, going unbeaten in all of their ten matches, but they failed to score in their opening two Nations League matches last month, losing to Belgium and drawing at home with England.

England’s win over Belgium will definitely give them plenty of confidence leading into this game.

However, Denmark won’t be easy opponents by any means. They got the better of England in the recent 0-0 draw between the two and will be hopeful of a result in this match. I suspect England’s more potent attack will prove to be the difference, but this should be a tight match.

Even accounting for their stalemate in the reverse meeting with Denmark, England have been in impressive form over the past 12 months and are now in control of their own Group A2 destiny.

Prediction: England 2-0 Denmark

HT Draw @ 2.26
