Chelsea vs. Manchester City: Goals on the menu at the Bridge

Chelsea vs Manchester City predictions and betting tips as the Blues aim to arrest the rampant Citizens in their Premier League showdown.

Manchester City will look to make it three wins on the bounce in the Premier League when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

Both sides go into the blockbuster contest with a 100% record since lockdown, with Chelsea beating Aston Villa on Sunday and Man City winning two from two so far.

The Citizens dispatched Arsenal in a 3-0 victory in their return to top-flight action before hammering Burnley 5-0 to remain 22 points behind leaders Liverpool in second but nine points above Leicester a place below them.

Chelsea had to come from a goal behind to beat Aston Villa on their return, but that win has moved them within three points of Leicester and five above fifth-placed Manchester United.

Chelsea may not be quite as prolific as the Citizens but they still have the fourth-best attacking record in the league, netting 53 times, and they scored twice in the 2-1 victory at Villa Park on their return.

The last five league meetings between these two have produced 13 goals and another exciting affair is expected on Thursday.

This will be only the second of the 150 league meetings between the Blues and the Citizens to take place on a Thursday. The previous one was a 2-1 home win for the Londoners on Boxing Day 1935. Chelsea have won 60 of the previous 149 meeting.

Reason for Chelsea vs. Manchester City predictions:

  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in six of Chelsea’s last seven Premier League matches.
  • Both teams also scored in five of those seven games.
  • Man City re-started their campaign with two wins and eight goals.
  • Man City beat Chelsea in two of their last three meetings.

Chelsea have the quality in their squad to cause Man City problems, but it is difficult to back against Guardiola’s side in their current form, even at a ground as difficult at Stamford Bridge.
