Brentford vs Fulham: prediction, preview & team news

The 2019-20 Championship season reaches its conclusion on Tuesday as Brentford and Fulham lock horns at Wembley Stadium in the playoff final.

Brentford reached the final courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate victory over Swansea City, while Fulham saw off another Welsh side in Cardiff City by the same scoreline over two legs in the last four.

The Bees (third) and the Cottagers (fourth) reached the final after strong Championship campaigns, seeing off Welsh competition in Swansea and Cardiff respectively in the play-off semi-finals.

Brentford vs Fulham: head-to-head

  • The Bees had won the last two matches in a row.
  • They had kept clean sheets on both occasions.
  • It’s been four years since they have lost against this opponent.
  • Six of the former ten match-ups had goals from both teams.
  • Five of the preceding ten games had three or more goals.

Brentford have gotten the better of Fulham twice this season, winning 1-0 at Griffin Park in December and 2-0 at Craven Cottage in June.

Those results mean Brentford just edge this fixture historically, with 22 wins to Fulham’s 21 – and 17 draws shared.

The Bees have lost just one of their last 10 West London derbies against Fulham. They clearly hold the upper hand on this game, but Fulham’s experience in similar big matches could prove decisive.

Fulham are yet to register a goal against the Bees during the 2019-20 campaign, but Parker’s men will no doubt feel confident in their ability to break down the Brentford defence with Mitrovic returning to the squad at the perfect moment.

Frank’s men have given a terrific account of themselves all season long and are no doubt worthy of Premier League status, so we are backing Brentford to come out on top and seal promotion to the top flight alongside Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion for the 2020-21 season.
