Switzerland vs Spain: Spain set to win in Euro 2020 quarter-finals

Switzerland are set to play Spain at the Gazprom Arena on Friday in the quarter-final of the UEFA Euro 2020.

After shocking France at Arena Nationala (Bucharest), Switzerland will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Spain in the EURO 2020 quarter-finals.

Switzerland are undefeated in 10 of their last 11 matches and have won seven of their last 10 games.

Switzerland beat Turkey 3-1 in their final group game.

Spain, on the other hand, beat Zlatko Dalic’s Croatia 5-3 on Monday in the Round of 16.

Spain are undefeated in their last 11 matches. They have won four of those with seven draws.

Switzerland vs Spain Predictions:

  • Switzerland have won 1 of their last 4 matches (Euro 2020).
  • Switzerland have scored seven goals and conceded eight in four games at this tournament.
  • Spain have won 10 of their last 14 matches against Switzerland (all competitions).
  • Spain are undefeated in their last 11 matches (all competitions).
  • Spain’s Alvaro Morata has scored 2 goals in his last 3 matches (Euro 2020).
  • Spain have scored 10 goals across their last 210 minutes of action.

In 22 head-to-head encounters between the two sides, Spain hold the clear advantage. They have won 16 games, lost one and drawn five.

The two countries last faced each other last year, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. A first-half goal from Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler for Switzerland was cancelled out by a late second-half goal from Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno for Spain. Switzerland had Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Nico Elvedi sent off in the second-half.

Switzerland shocked the world by beating France in the Round of 16, and will be brimming with confidence. Switzerland did a sensational job to get past France, but Granit Xhaka’s suspension could hurt them here.

Spain, on the other hand, are finding their groove after a slow start to the tournament. They have scored five goals in their last two games, and the likes of Sarabia, Morata and Torres have impressed. With both Portugal and France out of the tournament, Spain will fancy their chances of going all the way now.

Spain are favourites for this clash, but so were the French. Switzerland may have been easily taken apart by Italy but their last two displays have made them look like a serious threat, especially given that Spain are struggling for wins at the moment.

Spain will be the favourites, although Switzerland will not make it easy for them.

Our prediction: Spain win @ 1.73
