Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain: prediction, preview & team news

Manchester United have a chance to secure their place in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday but face a Paris Saint-Germain side for whom it is a must-win match at Old Trafford.

Old Trafford will host Group H derby between Manchester United and PSG.

The Red Devils sit top of Group H and know that simply avoiding defeat in one of their final two games will see them through, although on Wednesday they face a PSG side out for revenge and knowing that only a win will really do.

The Red Devils desperately needed a win against Istanbul Basaksehir, and they managed to get one, with the team moving one step closer to booking their place in the last 16. Man Utd are three points clear of PSG ahead of Wednesday’s showdown, meaning that they would be happy with one point from the match.

Manchester United have the opportunity to make it three wins in a row against Paris Saint-Germain when they welcome them to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain are not in the best form right now having won just twice in their last five games. However, if they can beat Manchester United at the Theatre of Dreams, then they will have the same number of points as the Red Devils and that will blow the group wide open.

If Man Utd win the game against Paris Saint-Germain, they will advance to the Round of 16. Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 2-2 draw in their latest fixture in the Ligue 1 by Bordeaux and Neymar Jr. has urged his teammates to play more as a team to have a chance of beating Manchester United at their own turf.

Reason for Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain predictions:

  • Bruno Fernandes has scored six goals in his last four games for United.
  • PSG have scored at least twice in six of their last seven away games.
  • United have scored 24 goals in their last seven home European games.
  • The Red Devils have seen over 2.5 goals in all four Champions League games this season.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have clashed three times till date. The Red Devils have won two times while the Parisiens have been victorious just once.

The last time these two sides met was in October in the reverse fixture and United won 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Marcus Rashford.

Indeed, in the Champions League as a whole PSG have only failed to score in one game since the start of the 2016-17 campaign – last season’s final against Bayern Munich.

PSG have won their only previous visit to Old Trafford, though, meaning that the away side has won all three editions of this fixture in the past.

That home defeat to PSG is Man United’s only one in their last 11 meetings with Ligue 1 clubs, and their only one in 15 previous home games against French opposition.

PSG are very close to must-win territory in the Champions League now and will arrive at Old Trafford knowing just how damaging a defeat could be.

Man United may only need a point from their final two games, but those two games come against clubs that made the final and semi-finals respectively last season so it is by no means straightforward from hereon in.

Our Prediction: Man Utd Over 4.5 (Team Corners) @ 2
