Czech Republic vs Denmark: Denmark destined to win Euro 2020 quarter-final

The Czech Republic face Denmark at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan on Saturday as the sides compete for a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

Both teams have surpassed expectations in the championship by reaching the last-8 and emerged as the biggest surprise packages.

Czech Republic came to the European Championships in poor form. They played two friendlies that ended in a 4-0 defeat against Italy and a 3-1 win against Albania.

The Czechs finished third in Group D behind England and Croatia, but caused a huge upset in the round of 16 by defeating the Netherlands.

The Czechs are proving one of the tournament’s surprise teams, never more so than when defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the round of 16 to reach this stage of the competition.

Denmark came into the European Championship having won nine of their previous 11 matches.

The Danes have turned near-tragedy into triumph at the finals, recovering from the loss of Christian Eriksen and their first two matches to beat both Russia and Wales in stirring fashion and reach the last eight.

Denmark haven’t reached the last-four since 1984 and clinching the Euros in 1992, while the Czech Republic were last seen in the semis in 2004.

Czech Republic vs Denmark Predictions:

  • Czech Republic have lost to nil in 4 of their last 8 matches (European Championship).
  • Czech Republic have seen BTTS No in 7 of their last 9 matches (European Championship).
  • Czech Republic have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 matches against Denmark (all competitions).
  • Denmark have won 11 of their last 15 matches (all competitions).
  • Denmark have won by 3+ goals in their last 2 matches (all competitions).
  • Denmark have kept 10 clean sheets in their last 16 matches (all competitions).

There have been 11 previous clashes between the sides before, with the Czech Republic winning thrice, one more than Denmark. Spoils have been shared on six occasions between the two sides.

Denmark have a 3-2 advantage against Czech Republic with 6 draws in 11 matches.

Interestingly, five of their last six clashes have ended in stalemates, with Denmark securing a thumping 3-0 away victory in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in March 2013.

The Red and Whites won the European Championship in 1992, but they have not been at this stage of the competition since 2004, having been eliminated in the group stages in 2012 and actually failing to qualify for the finals in both 2008 and 2016.

Both sides have punched well above their weight and will be worthy semi-finalists.

Denmark sneaked their way through the group stages of the competition, but they were seriously impressive against Wales in the round of 16. Czech Republic deserve huge credit for their display against the Netherlands, but we believe that the Danes will emerge victorious by the narrowest of margins to reach the final four.

Our prediction: Denmark win @ 2.17
